
SMRs are effectively “mini” nuclear power stations. Most conventional nuclear power plants are large in scale, such as Hinkley Point C, which is being built in Somerset. Hinkley C will have 3.2 gigawatts of capacity, enough to power six million homes. As the name suggests, SMRs are smaller: they are typically considered to have less than 0.3GW of capacity.
