The Sizewell B nuclear power station has resumed generating electricity after being closed down for two months to allow for a multi-million pound overhaul that included replacing giant rotors. The reactor, which generates electricity for 2.5 million homes, was shut down in October, known as an “outage,” to enable important maintenance work to be carried out, which included replacing a third of the fuel assemblies in the reactor.
