Courts have been ordered to stop authorising warrants for energy companies to force-fit prepayment meters in customers’ homes, following a Times investigation. Lord Justice Edis, one of the country’s most senior judges, has written to all magistrates’ courts in England and Wales, stating that with immediate effect such hearings must not be listed until further notice. He reminded magistrates that they must act “with regard to the human rights of the people affected, [in] particular any people with vulnerability”.
