In February 2023, plans to wind up BNFL within two years were still active. By this point the company had not traded in 13 years. However, on 18 July 2023, BNFL was resurrected as Great British Nuclear, with the aim of delivering the government’s long-term nuclear programme and supporting its ambition to deliver up to 24 GW of nuclear power in the UK by 2050.
