Converting the electricity grid to clean power by 2030 could bring down wholesale costs and shave £27 a year off household energy bills. The National Energy System Operator (Neso) said hitting the target, a key one for Labour, would be a “huge challenge” that would require an expansion of energy networks on a scale not seen since the 1960s.
