High energy costs and the lack of an industrial strategy put firms off investing in the UK, the boss of DS Smith, the FTSE 100 packaging giant, has warned. Miles Roberts said his company had throttled back investment in the UK in favour of Europe and America because of concerns about energy supply and a lack of government support. “Energy costs in the UK have been 50 to 100 per cent higher than the average cost in Europe,” he said.
