Have your say on the Nuclear Energy Financing Bill

The Nuclear Energy (Financing) Bill aims to provide for a new model for financing new nuclear power stations in the UK.

The UK government has unveiled legislation to codify a financing scheme that would allow developers to recover money from ratepayers while newbuilds are still under construction.

This is the model that would be used to part fund Sizewell C. We ALL PAY.

In other words, the public will pay a surcharge on our electricity bills, per household, for the lifetime of the plant. We, here in Suffolk, will also pay the high price of disruption, traffic chaos, 1,000’s of workers converging on the area and general hell for many years.

Please remember the Bill is only about the Financing of New Nuclear not about the other problems the build will cause.

We encourage you to write to the select committee scrutiny@parliament.uk, details on how to respond can be found here. Please respond by the 16th of November for your submission to count.

You may want to comment on the following:

If you have chosen a renewable tariff and don’t want to pay for nuclear energy, you may also not want to pay for the construction of Sizewell C. Make this very clear. You could also write to your Green Energy supplier and ask them if they intend to object.

Scottish billpayers have voted not to have any more nuclear power stations built, they may not wish to pay for the construction of Sizewell C. The SNP spoke out strongly against nuclear funding when the bill was presented in parliament.

Nuclear power stations are inherently risky and predisposed to cost and time overruns, meaning this form of financing, which transfers risk to consumers, is totally unsuitable.
