The blustery weather brought by Storm Pia has helped Britain’s windfarms set a new clean energy record, with wind turbines generating more than half of the country’s electricity. Windfarms generated 21.8 gigawatts (GW) of electricity between 8am and 8.30am on Thursday, according to RenewableUK, a not-for-profit renewable energy trade association, citing figures from National Grid’s electricity system operator (ESO).
