Jeremy Hunt is to get a £2.8bn boost after falling gas prices meant the rescue of energy supplier Bulb cost less than feared. The Chancellor was previously facing a bill of up to £6.5bn for temporarily running the company, which collapsed and was put into special administration in November 2021, according to official estimates. But after gas prices plunged and Bulb, which had 1.5 million customers, was bought by Octopus Energy, the costs of the rescue fell as well.
