Octopus Energy has paid more than £3bn to the government following its acquisition of Bulb, in a move the UK’s largest energy supplier today said ended the bailout process for the company. Octopus Energy said the payment meant the rescue of the embattled rival energy company had delivered a total profit of £1.5bn for the government, bringing to an end concerns the original bailout could result in a substantial bill for taxpayers.
