The UK is on the brink of a major new deal with the US that would see nuclear reactors installed across northeast England. Ben Houchen, the mayor of Tees Valley, is reportedly nearing an agreement with Westinghouse, a US-based nuclear firm, to install small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs). The deal – which Lord Houchen has touted as “completely privately funded” – would see the four mini reactors installed near the mouth of the River Tees.
