The Day England Died is a novel written by Barrie Skelcher, a former local Leiston resident who passed away in 2015. Barrie had a long career in the nuclear industry. He had always been a supporter of Nuclear Energy and was an employee of CEGB and British Energy on Sizewell A. Despite his enthusiasm for nuclear power in general, he came out strongly against EDF and Sizewell C, because he believed that there are sound reasons why Sizewell is not a suitable site for more nuclear development. He wrote the novel to show how present Government electricity policy is vulnerable to terrorists which implies we should not have developments like Sizewell C.

The novel is available from local bookshops and on line book sellers like Amazon.
